It is an end of an Era --- The coaching duo of Dennis Strieter and Matt Cottrell came to an end yesterday in a rousing victory at Curt Schilling Field. There were cheers and tears in the eyes of the crowd and the snack chips and gatorade was flowing.
Okay - all kidding aside - I think Matt and Dennis were long lost twins...born 3 years apart, who look nothing alike...okay - not twins, but they think alike and have that same dry, some people just don't get it, sense of humor. I think they had as much fun as the kids did - and as they move on, I hope they know what a great job they did!
Maybe the forces will join again some day - not for the tball world, but some other venture.
The other big question looming out there is if we should play Shaun up to the machine pitch level next season. We all packed up again and visited our neighbor Tia's game yesterday to see how it was. They are 7-8 year olds - and they are freaky big. Ugh. Is Shaun really going to grow that much in the next 2 years!!?! Okay - other than size - I didn't see that much more skill than Shaun has. He could hit better than half of them for sure (and has at the batting cage machines), and he could catch and throw as good as more than half. However - the smallest kid on either team was quite a bit bigger than him. (Not to mention a maturity level between a 5 1/2 yr old and an 8 yr old).
Short of it is this - we think he could handle it fine, but we just don't want to look back and regret it thinking we pushed him. He DOES NOT want to play t-ball again - he's just bored with it he says. He wants to play baseball, but without a middle level option (and we are NOT going back to NYS), we offered other sports...Soccer, Basketball...He asked for Football.
Turns out there is a new Flag Football league by our house that looks cool and has a 5-7 yr olds league. Since he plays in our living room almost every day and used his "Cottrell Coins" behavior points to buy himself a mouth guard, skull cap, and football towel this year - I guess he likes it. So - here comes a new obsession --- I can feel it already!
Football, Football, Football....ugh.
