We had a great trip this weekend down in Tucson. Last year we went down and back the same day, but with the kids a little older, and their new love of hotels, we decided to stay the night this year. We had a blast, and behavior was really good the whole time too!
We had lunch at one of our old Haunts - Gentle Ben's. The food was surprisingly good (we usually only partied there back in the day - not ate!). Mommy even had to have a Red Cat Amber for nostalgia sake. mmmmm, wish I had one now! The girl who waited on us was so sweet and friendly, both with us and the kids. She loved Ainsley in her Cheerleader uniform. She brought me my beer and Matt looked at me and said "There is no way that girl is 21 years old".
Shaun got a new poster, 3 autographs, including Stoops Lite, and met a bunch of players close up. We played a little catch in the endzone, and then out on the mall on our way back to the hotel.

Oh - I almost forgot - Ainsley loved the scrimmage and Wilbur - but she's a little peeved at Wilma who was a no-show. Ainsley stepped it up at the game though and kept Shouting as loud as she could GO CATS! and shaking her pom poms. She even made it on the jumbo tron!
Except for Ainsley wanting to be carried everywhere (Princess A can't walk I guess), it was a huge success again.
They loved the hotel, and Matt got an amazing deal at the Doubletree - definitely recommend it!
We hit the bookstores first where Shaun got a new shirt and Ainsley picked out some tatoos. (Note to self, next time, don't put it on Ainsley's face - she has a huge red irritation on her cheek when we took it off.) Sorry sweety!

I try not to do the math often, but I couldn't help it. We graduated nearly 14 years ago.
It was the weekend before school starts, so the campus was a buzz with sorority girls, frat boys, and freshman saying goodbye to mom/dad. We kept thinking we stood out like a sore thumb walking around with little ones in tow, but thank goodness they were very well behaved so everyone just thought they were cute and went on their way around us. The few times we had to scold them for something hit hard though. Nothing will make you feel older than walking by a bunch of partying 19/20 year olds and squating down to say something like, "Fine, if you won't try to go potty we'll just have to put a baby pull up on you then!" Ugh - I mean, "hey, you hittin' Dirtbags tonight?" .... "Just a minute sweetie, mommy is talking to the nice frat boy with the six pac abs".
The scrimmage was awesome! Team looks good - although I felt funny cheering when a great pass or catch happened. Doesn't that just mean the defense messed up? Strange cheering at an intersquad scrimmage. hmmmmm. We had a really hard time finding Coach Stoops on the sideline - he has lost a TON of weight. We decided we'd call him Stoops Lite this season. We recognized him as soon as someone messed up and he walked on the field, arms flailing, screaming though. Yep - there he is, no doubt.

Oh, of course we had to stop and play for a while when we came by Old Main and the fountain.

Yes, I'm old slap to reality #3...While Matt and the kids were playing football and I was sitting off to the side after the scrimmage 2 young college boys approached me. Matt came over after we had talked a bit and they left. He asked, rather impressed, if I had just been hit on. It pained me to be honest, but the answer was..."Nope, they wanted to let me know about the college community Baptist group". I guess I should be flattered they thought I might be a student - but it was rather dark at that point.
In the hotel we watch the Cardinals game until Shaun finally told us "Five more minutes and we need to shut the tv off and go to sleep. It's very late." So cute!
Sunday we had a great breakfast at the hotel (for free! - again, I totally recommend the Doubletree). Then we hit campus again for little final walk around and some more family football on the mall. Shaun wondered where everyone was and we tried to explain about college students' sleeping habits - but I'm not sure he got it. ;-)
