What!?!

On my way home from work yesterday I got a phone call...from Shaun's kindergarten teacher.
Not good news. Shaun was in trouble, not just today - but all week, and some of last week!
Now, this wasn't a complete surprise, as Shaun came home a couple days saying he got a "Step" (kind of like a warning time-out type thing). but there was no note home about it being anything more than that.
Turns out his teacher just kept forgetting to send the notes home, and then meant to call, but didn't - until now that is.

He was repeatedly being told to "stay on task", talking to other kids when he should be working, acting out at lunch and at recess a couple times. Not huge things on their own, but I guess it's been all day, many days in a row! Ugh! At least Mrs. C said he is not talking back or being disrespectful when she corrects him, but he does the same thing again, and again, and again...

She said it has been very unlike him, and she asked the dreaded question, "Is it possible there is something going on at home?" (Code word for - what are you and your husband doing to him lately that's making him be a monster for me at school.)

The worst part of all of this is I asked him when I picked him up how his day went - and he said great. I asked how his behavior was and he said good. I asked him if Mrs. C would agree - and he said yes. Ugh - lied right to me! I then told him that I talked to Mrs. C today and he finally fessed up. AUGGHhhhhh.

He's only in Kindergarten - I really didn't think we'd be dealing with this stuff yet! He's been doing so great this year so far!

So - we was grounded from Football practice last night (horrible for him), spent some time in his room, and I made him write and re-write sentences for like 30 minutes "I will stay on task." "I am sorry." "I will tell the truth."

Mrs. C is calling me at the end of the day today to report, and Shaun knows that if the report is not good he won't get to play in his football game tomorrow, and we will cancel our sledding trip planned for tomorrow as well.

He woke up this morning determined to have a good day - all smiles and reassurances...I'm holding my breath it is a good report! please, please, please...

So, if this is in Kindergarten - what is 7th grade going to be like!?

As I said the other week - Kindergarten is tough! Do you think he and Chatty are texting and calling each other? I feel for you - and know what you are going through. It's tough but hopefully just a phase - he is a great kid!
