It's a dog's life...

The kids have been begging for a dog for over a year now and for the last 6 months - Matt was right with them.  I was the lone hold out.  (and for complete selfish reasons because I LOVE dogs, but also love a house without pet hair/accidents/clean up).  Alas - in the last couple months I have softened and realized what's a little mess in life in comparison to a lifetime of memories with a furry companion.
So - we have been looking and preparing to get a dog.

Last week while up north the kids took care of my mother-in-law's friends' dogs all week.  She has 2 and her daughter has 2 and the kids walked them twice a day, helped feed them, fill water dishes, throw balls and just love on them.  They ADORED every minute of it.  For Ainsley - that was the best part of the entire trip...for Shaun it was a close 2nd to the quad riding.

I was all set to put some pics of them with the dogs on the blog - but my phone (where the pics were) died before I could get them...but you can imagine 1 lab, 2 golden retrievers, and a shepard mix.  They are GREAT dogs - but it was a good test to see how the kids would be with them.  They never once complained of the walks - they rushed to the door when it was time.  And that is a feat for Ainsley who normally asks to be carried after 6 steps on a walk without dogs.  Ainsley even brushed them and did a great job.
I'm sure the novelty will fade - and since I work from home full time - I will be the primary caregiver for the new dog - but I'm kind of excited to have an "office mate".

So - we've narrowed down we want a lab and we've already been "evaluated" by an adoption service.  On Saturday we are having our first possible dog come by for a meet and greet and we are very excited.  It's the 1st one - so we'll see if it is the right fit for us/him - but it's exciting to get the search started.

Here he is - "Douglas a.k.a. Dougy".  He is a 14 month old, black, male.  We've been told by his foster mommy that he loves to cuddle, take car rides, take walks, go on jogs, and play! He likes kids and other dogs.  She says he is trustworthy (does not chew and no accidents). He even likes the pool too.
(Oh - and the name is just a temp name they give him in foster care - so we can change it).

Does he look like a Cottrell to you?!?
