So our meeting with Dougy went terrific! We just adored him and the kids didn't want him to leave! He seemed to like us too - but was at times more interested in exploring the house than hanging with us. However, - you have to understand that when he is in a new and different setting. He gave kisses galore and thinks he is a lap dog. He's gorgeous and sweet - but not really a ball chaser (a dissapointment to Shaun). The only negatives with Dougy at all were the ball thing and that he jumps on the furniture - but both could probably be taught.
Today - we got to have a visit with another wonderful dog. Her name is Connie. (although the shelter just gave her that name and it can be easily changed). She is also a 1.5 yr old lab - but a yellow lab - female.
We LOVE her...She was very playful and loved playing ball with the kids and with us. She is lovable, gives kisses and just wanted to be near us (especially the kids) at all times during the visit. She even knows a few commands for treats already. She is Very Smart it seems. She doesn't jump up at all - on people or furniture - but we hear she likes to chew on shoes if you leave them out and she has no other chew toys. (Incentive for the kids to remember to pick up their shoes!?)
She is bigger than Dougy - typical lab size and really pretty. She needs some leash training to not pull (she is strong!), but not to a crazy extent and as soon as you pull and correct her she gets in line...so she is definitely workable.
We have a big decision to make...they are both amazing dogs! What would you choose?
