Crossing our fingers and holding our breath

Most of you that read this know that Shaun is deathly afraid of the Dentist and all things associated with the dentist. He doesn't like the chair, the bib, let alone the xray thing you have to put in your mouth or any utensils. Oh - the one thing he does like - the movable light overhead. He likes to think it is a space ship and turn it on and off. But I digress...

Our family dentist (who is wonderful), has recommended we need to try to take him to a pediatric dentist's office. There they are used to these fearful guys with Dentist issues and they have really fun kids stuff all around to distract. Also - they have the means to use, not just laughing gas, but full sedation if necessary for difficult little ones.

So - today we have our first appt. at the pediatric dentist. He needs a cavity taken care of, but they suggested we come in this first time just for a routine visit to get him comfortable. Then we'll schedule the cavity appt. after this.

Oh, how I hope this goes well. I really don't know what to do if he freaks out a this place now too! He's downstairs dreading it already, watching tv. He just keeps repeating "I don't want to go, I don't want to mommy."

So - I'm off to take him out for some special pre-dentist donuts since we have some time to kill before the appt. Pray for me! ;-)

UPDATE: Appt. went as expected. Shaun definitely liked the new denist office in that it had cool video games and cartoons, but still would not let anyone take xrays or clean his teeth. It didn't take long for the Dr to realize he is going to need sedation for any big work.
She did have an AMAZING way with him though and got him to sit in the chair, open, count teeth and stop whining as well. She saw enough to see he's got some new cavities and the tooth that he had the "mini-root canal" on at the other place has issues. There is an absess and they now have to pull the tooth and put in a spacer. The list goes on - but the good news is they will put him under via IV sedation and do it all in one shot...and he'll never remember it happening. All for the low low price of ....UGH. Oh well - so worth it at this point.

Wait, isn't the donuts the reason why he has the cavity?
