Breaking Rules

Since Matt had to be away this weekend, I decided I needed to try to make it a fun filled weekend to distract the kids - and we had a theme "breaking the rules".
All weekend I tried to break some of our normal rules, to small degrees, to have some fun.
...and boy did we!

Friday was an unusually cool day for this time of year in Phoenix, so we played out side with our friends on the block. It was awesome and it has been soooo long since we've been able to do that without melting in the heat.
The kids loved it...but soon it was time to come in for dinner. They wanted to stay out longer (and so did I, enjoying talking with my friends Heather and Lance). So, we broke our 1st rule of the weekend and stayed out late, eating dinner sitting on the sidewalk and playing until dark.
oooh - we are getting so crazy and wild! ;-)

After coming in we had a fun movie night. We watched The Tooth Fairy even though we were starting it only shortly before our normal bed time. (rulebreak alert - staying up late). And - despite the late hour - I laid out an impressive array of junk food snacks and orange soda! (rulebreak alert - junk food late at night -- and LOTS of it).

Half way through the movie we were getting sleepy and moved the movie onto the portable dvd player and watched the rest up in my bed. At then end we stayed in mommy's bed and had a sleepover! (rulebreak alert - sleeping in mommy's bed instead of our own). We told "silly" stories for a while. Most of which ended with a punchline about someone or something biting someone's butt. Never gets old!

Morning came quickly (rulebreak alert - waking mommy up before 6:30am). But we headed out to the store to pick up a few things...and came home with donuts. No donuts for breakfast on Saturday mornings is not all that unusual, so no rules issues there. But, we invited our friends over for a morning swim session and had a snack (rulebreak alert: 2nd round of donuts).

We spent most of the day playing, making messes and not cleaning them up, running little errands, and watching movies. Eventually we made our way over to Neena Pat and Papa Jerry's house for more swimming, snacks, and then out to dinner at the small airport near our house.
After dinner - headed up to the viewing deck to get a great view of some take offs and landings and told stories of who we thought were in the planes and what they were up to. Lot's of fun.

Once home, a small storm kicked up and we played outside in the nice cool weather again until dark! (rulebreak alert: riding bikes in rain puddles after we had already showered and cleaned up). Heading in we finished the night with some snacks and finishing up another movie - Camp Rock and then went off to bed (rule break alert: went to bed late again).
At least this time it was in their own beds, and they let mom sleep until 7:00am this time! Yeah!

So - here we are Sunday morning, feeling rested and ready for daddy to come home! We missed daddy a lot, but also had lots of fun.

Hope no one rats us out for all our rule breaking! ;-)
