Update

Football went great yesterday - slow start, but good group of kids. Shaun looked like he was already midseason fit! ;-) That kid loves to play!

On sadder news, we headed directly from the game to Tucson for Matt and I to attend the U of A vs. Stanford Basketball game (kids went with my parents for the night).
On our way there news was breaking that there had been a shooting and a Congresswoman was involved. As we travelled the 2 hours we got more details and it became apparent that it was much worse than that. The number shot climbed, the number deceased began climbing as well.
As news is, the reports were jumbled, conflicting, and sometimes just erroneous...and since we were only 20 minutes outside Tucson at that point - we decided to continue. We were just pulling off the freeway when the announcement came from U of A that they were cancelling the game for the day - until Sunday at 12:30pm.
Sad for us, but as we walked around, hit the bookstores, and got some coffee before the long drive back - we felt even sadder for what had happened. We know that intersection, we know Tucson and it's small town feel, we know UMC, we know how sad and angry that city is feeling.
We were upset our special day out without the kids and our great seats were going to be wasted, but more so we felt blessed to have our kids and ourselves alive and healthy.

As we drove back I couldn't stop thinking of the parents of the little 9 yr old girl that was shot in the back and passed away at the hospital. I was even brought to tears a few times just thinking of it. I'm angry with the crazy that did this, I'm angry with his parents (who he lived with) for not noticing all the signs. I'm angry with the media trying to portray Arizona as a hotbed for hatred because of one crazy 22 year old boy. I'm sad for Congresswoman Giffords husband who had to rush back from Houston (he's and astronaut) to try to see his wife before she may die.
Mostly I'm just sad for everyone involved.

I am however, very blessed and grateful.

Sorry for the melancholoy post today. I think we all are feeling it here in AZ.
