You are mom's, you've heard it...
12:30am....
crying....
door opens...
tip toeing of cute little feet...
Then, "Mommy, my tummy hurts".
Immediately followed by what sounds like a cat preparing to cough up ....
well, you know what I mean.
That was us last night with my adorable little princess Ainsley. She doesn't often get sick, and even then rarely throws up. She's just not a pukey kid. So I knew we were in for it when it started. It lasted from 12:30 am to 5 am this morning. Throw up, pause, lay back down, sleep, moan, cry, throw up, pause, lay...well - you get the point.
Like I said, it's been a while since I've been up all night with kids. I've re-learned a few important lessons I had forgot.
1) Do not even try to give medicine to a child in the midst of a throwing up night. Regardless of the 104 temp. It is futile. It'll just come right back up.
2) After you've wasted the last of the open bottle of fever reducing medicine by putting it in, just to come back out...you will not be able to find the brand new bottle you purchased just weeks ago. Search all you want - it is a master at hide n' seek.
3) No matter how many buckets, or how quick you are - you WILL get puked on. Just expect it and deal with it.
4) While the Winnie-the Pooh mini-couch is slightly less painful than sitting up in the rocking chair with your feet propped up on a oversided stuffed pig - you will NOT sleep and you will NOT be comfortable. Again - deal with it.
Despite these valuable lessons and my poor baby feeling awful - we did make it through the night and after getting some new medicine in her and a nice long bath - she's feeling much better. And after a nice big black coffee - so am I!
I hate when she's sick - but I LOVE the snuggles! pukey kid or not!
