This should be a happy post about my gorgeous little man having his school pictures taken today. Something profound about milestones and memories to look back on.
But it is not.
Instead it is a post about how incredibly, ridiculously hard it is to get my adorable, but frustratingly sports centric little man to wear ANYTHING other than basketball shorts and t-shirts.
At the start of the week we talked about it and made it clear he would have to wear a collared shirt and nicer shorts. He agreed to it.
I offered to buy him something new, but he picked a plain navy plue polo he has for church.
Then yesterday he asked if I'd get him something else instead. I went on my lunchbreak and got him 2 options. A new striped polo and a cool plaid short sleeve button down that I see all the kids wearing lately.
When he saw them he jumped on the button down, said it was cool and picked out a shirt to wear under it. (which I guess is the style).
Then this morning came. He was fine with the shirts - but wanted to wear basketball shorts with it. Ugh. Now, granted - you won't see the shorts in the picture - but I just couldn't let myself send him to school wearing a collared, button down shirt and basketball shorts. So I said he could bring some with and change into just a tshirt and those shorts after pictures.
He exploded and so began WWIII.
Him crying, worried because he couldn't play soccer in the morning, saying that he is "already hot" - mind you he isn't even dressed yet.
Matt telling him a list of all the things I do for him and that he can dress up one day for mommy for a nice picture.
Yelling, screaming, crying, and finally - a reluctant 6 year old getting dressed.
So I now had an adorable 6 year old dressed cool and cute, with big red teary eyes.
Smile!

Like most things - he was over it in about 5 minutes, asked for a waffle and some turkey sausage and all was well again.

I am laughing - sorry but sounds like the epic battles at our house! Glad it smoothed over quickly.
