It's like a zoo out there!

Today is field trip day! Shaun is going on his first ever REAL field trip!
They are going to the zoo and I had strict instructions from him this morning for packing his lunch.
"It must be in a disposable bag mommy - not my Star Wars lunch box! It must have my name on it! Clearly! I must have a water bottle too! That can be thrown away when I'm done. It has to have my name on it, mommy! First and Last!"

Okay - they really drill instructions into these kids - eh?

Anyway - Shaun is super excited, and I'm super excited for him. We've been counting down the days for 2 weeks and it is finally here! Yeah! So I kissed him goodbye when I left for work - sending him off to what is sure to be a fun and exciting and glorious day! .....................

.......and then I drove to work.................
......and then I thought...I hope he's good for whatever volunteer gets assigned to 'watch' him.
......and then I thought...What if he doesn't pay attention and wanders off a bit, or gets left behind somewhere?
.....Should I have put a note in his pocket with his name, his teacher's name, and my cell phone number?
.....Should I have just blown off my work obligations today and gone as a chaperone anyway?
.....What if some weirdo is at the zoo and when Shaun lags back a bit he grabs him and walks right out with him?
.....What if Shaun climbs a fence he's not supposed to and gets grabbed by a crazy Chimpanzee?

Okay - at this point I felt ridiculous so I stopped what if'ing and Should have'ing - and I turned on Sports talk radio and zoned out.
I am not one of those "helicopter parents", however - I was surprisingly blindsided this morning with the fears of sending my little boy off into the big bad world without me. I logically know he'll be fine, but he's growing up so fast!

Oh well - crazy mommy aside - Shaun's going to have an AWESOME day!

Chatty's class went on Wednesday! Maybe they can share stories if we ever get a chance to meet up!
