Well - it has been a rough one at our house this week for a certain 5 year old boy. You've heard all about my battles trying to get Shaun to not only go to the dentist, but actually open his mouth, get xrays and get his teeth cleaned. After months of trials, mom having a nervous breakdown and a little pain in a back tooth - He Did IT!!!! Matt, took him last week and he did everything he was supposed to! Yeah Shaun! Yeah Daddy!
Shaun's reward?!? Another trip to the dentist this week to have "Pulpotomy", or "baby root canal" as it is commonly called. Poor little guy.
He went Tuesday and was terrified of course, but he did it. Daddy helped him through it.
(laughing gas helped too).
He was very upset after...from the pain?
No
From the shots of novacaine?
No - he doesn't think he even had shots actually (yeah laughing gas)
He didn't like the numb feeling. He really freaked from that. But I was so proud of him for bearing down and doing what he needed to.
His reward?!? An H1N1 flu shot at school the next day! Yeah Shaun! Yeah Mommy for going up to the school after lunch and holding him down while they shot him up. Ugh.
Now it has been 2 days since the root canal and his cheek is still all swollen, so Matt took him back today and Dr. Angel said it doesn't happen often, but there is still some infection in there. At this point he has no pain, so they are going to ramp up the anti-biotics and hope that takes care of it without having to go back in.
(Please God, don't make them have to go back in!).
So - all this has added up to a stressful week for all of us.
How do we relieve the stress? Break the rules!Matt had a work conference Thurs. and Fri, so last night we were on our own.I picked the kids up early, bought them some new books, and took them to Dunkin' Donuts!!!
Donuts - BEFORE dinner!
Then we headed home and played outside with our friends UNTIL AFTER DARK!!!We had dinner late and I made them each whatever they wanted. After a quick wash down we watched tv and laughed and played and stayed up later than we should have.It was a fun night and a needed release (at least for mommy and the kiddos).
I hope the weekend brings us less swelling, no pain, and lots of fun!!
