We got an email from our school principal today letting us know of a attempted kidnapping that happened in our neighborhood, down the street from our school.
A White, late 1990's model GM Savana van parked on a side street and when elementary school and middle school siblings came by on their way home, he tried to lure them into the van. Luckily the parent was close by, and got the license number for the police and filed a report.
The police interviewed the driver and impounded the vehicle. Supposedly - he is a white male in his 30's.
So scary - not something I was thinking I needed to talk about with my kids yet, but we'll be doing so this weekend. They don't walk to school on their own - they go with me, but it still scares the heck out of me!
So - how do you talk to a 7 and 5 year old about "stranger danger" without terrifying them?
